If you are taking the VTNE on June 20, 2008, the deadline for registering is April 7, 2008.
The fee for the VTNE will be $130 for the online application.
Calculators (provided by the test proctors) will be allowed beginning with the June 2008 Administration.

Veterinary Technician National Exam
As of 2007 ownership of the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) will be handled by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB).

The VTNE will only be offered to veterinary technicians who have graduated from a 2, 3 or 4 year AVMA accredited program. This is the AAVSB's ruling and not a decision by the NHVTA. Follow these links for more information on the VTNE and the AAVSB.

The VTNE is administered twice yearly on the third Friday of January and June. The AAVSB is requesting all applications must be submitted online.

How to become a Certified Veterinary Technician in New Hampshire

1. Did you take and pass the VTNE?

2. Did you graduate from an accredited program?

  • If yes, then please do the following:
    • Click here to get the application in a Word format or PDF format.
    • Send the completed application to the NHVTA, along with a $25.00 check. Please make the check payable to the NHVTA.
    • Send proof (a copy) of your VTNE scores.
    • Send a copy of your diploma or other proof of graduation.
    • If your school was AVMA accredited at the time of your graduation, but no longer has an AVMA accredited program, you will also have to provide proof that it was AVMA approved at that time.

  • If no, then please visit the American Association of Veterinary State Boards for more information.

How to Re-certify as a Veterinary Technician in New Hampshire

Certified Veterinary Technicians are required to re-certify
every year by December 31st (for the upcoming year). Twelve (12) credits are required to re-certify for the upcoming year.

  • When re-certifying, please send proof (copies) of your 12 continuing education credits completed. Do not send more than the required credits as the NHVTA does not re-certify for multiple years.
  • Click here to get the application in a Word format or

  • Send the completed application to the NHVTA.
  • Send a $25.00 check, payable to the NHVTA.

New Hampshire Veterinary Technology Program
In NH the only accredited Veterinary Technology program is at the New Hampshire Community Technical College in Stratham (NHCTC).

This is a two year program and upon completion students graduate with an Associate in Science in Veterinary Technology degree. Details about this program can be reviewed at
